But this is a good one so it's worth a lot more! It is Raja's Dad who took the day off from his beloved farm to spend time with family. |
He is the neighbourhood ironer. |
The garbage tractor- better than throwing diapers over the fence into the empty lot like they made me last time we were here. Sorry, Mother Earth! |
My breakfast today. It tasted kind of blurry. |
Ammon enjoying his "gold" chain and a flower. |
He is good at sharing. |
This Tata (grandpa in Telugu) is 87 years young! |
Maya getting her hair done by an Auntie. We're cutting it next week. |
Auntie Sailu spending time with Maya and Teja. |
Teja and I cuddling in our jammies. |
Baby Vaibhavi with an Auntie. She was wearing eye make-up today. Babies wear more make-up than ladies here. I'm not kidding. |
My Mother-in-law working in her kitchen. The stitches haven't slowed her down one bit. |
Teja at the shoe shop. |
We wanted to have a nice picture under the flowering tree but got photobombed by bovine. |
This open drain is the cause of most of our misery. |
Everyone does these fancy chalk designs in front of their house during this time of year. We love looking at them. |
It's a wonder we aren't all shriveled up like raisins by now. |
Vera taking a brief break from her ongoing emotional crisis to play "Pointy Time" with cousin Kavya. |
Maya in front of the house putting that little broom to work.
Raja said I'll never see a man's hand on a broom in India, but it looks like he made an exception here. |
I would like to complain talk about meal times here. First let's go over when we eat in Canada.
Breakfast is pretty close to when we wake up in the morning, so around 7:00.
Lunch is at noon.
After School Snack at 3:30
Supper/Dinner is between 5:00 and 6:30
Simple right? It makes sense to me. I feel that these timings are somehow superior to when we eat in India, but that is called "Ethnocentrism" and I should get over myself.
Breakfast is late in the morning 10-11:00 (even though they're are up before 6:00)
Lunch is around 2:00 or 3:00
Snack between 5:00 and 6:00
Din-Din between 9:00 and 10:00 at night. When the kids are sleeping.
See how that last one is especially problematic? That's how everyone does it here and I have not cracked the code as to why. But it seems I have cracked the code as to how the children around here keep slender despite a diet heavy with clarified butter.
Our Doctor/Lawyer neighbours gave me some penne and ragu and I made it for the kids and myself for proper-time supper tonight and then Raja cooked us some chicken in a pan and it was the best friggin' food in the history of the world! I'm going to eat the leftovers for correct breakfast when I wake up tomorrow, calories be damned!
G'night!!!
