Welcome to Packing Hell

Look who's skipping treadmill time tonight to start a blog! I wanted to blog our family trip to India because I am an attention whore wanted to document our fun and cherish the memories for ever and always.
In January of 2008, Raja and I packed up our three kids and went to stay with his parents in their small village of only 400,000 in the state of Andhra Pradesh. So this will be round two, but with a fourth child added to the mix. It took us 35.5 hours to travel from our front door to theirs. We're shooting for a measly 30 this time. A cake walk, I tell you. What all would a family of six need to take with them on a month-long trip to a tropical climate? Pretty much everything we own, it seems. Raja packed up the Christmas tree and put it back under the basement stairs today, so I'm quite sure it didn't make it's way into one of the suitcases. The above photograph is of one side of our third floor guest bedroom. I'm sure it conveys to you a sense of order and preparedness like it does to me*.

We made a family trip to the mall tonight for the first time ever, and it did not end well. I'm not superstitious, so I refuse to believe this is an omen, and yet my tummy gurgles with foreboding/diet coke. Four-year old Maya took a table corner to the eye in a high-end children's clothing store, (which shall not be named due to pending litigation**).

My poor baby! Don't let that sweet smile fool you; she's going to need compensation for her immense pain and suffering! Seriously, though, we freaked the heck out. An employee ran for a cup of ice and I took off one of her socks to put it in. Because if I was going to have a dirty sock filled with ice held to my left eye, I'd prefer it were my own and also, she was wearing warm boots.

So, I've got a couple of days to finish packing, cleaning and protecting my children's faceholes from furniture, then this show hits the road January 1st, 2011. Health and WiFi permitting, I hope to capture the excitement and adventure of our trip, all through the magic of my  poorly punctuated blog posts! Read along if you like- I promise to keep it interesting!***
